FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a postpartum doula, and how can Village Postpartum Support help my family?

As a DONA-trained postpartum doula, I provide in-home care to support your recovery, ease the transition into parenthood, and help your whole family adjust to life with a newborn. My services include newborn care, breastfeeding support, meal prep, household help, and emotional encouragement, so you feel more confident and supported during this time.

What are the benefits of working with Village Postpartum Support?

Bringing home a baby is overwhelming, and having the right support can make all the difference. My goal is to reduce stress, improve recovery, and provide hands-on help, whether that’s allowing you to catch up on sleep, assisting with infant feeding, or handling small tasks so you can focus on bonding with your baby.

How long does postpartum doula care last?

Every family is different! I offer several packages depending on how much support you need. Some parents just need a few visits to get settled, while others prefer ongoing care for the first few months. Together, we’ll create a plan that fits your needs.

Do you provide breastfeeding support?

Yes! I am a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and provide lactation support as part of my postpartum doula services. Whether you need help with latching, pumping, increasing milk supply, or troubleshooting feeding challenges, I’ll be there to guide you. Weight checks and weighed feeds are also available.

What’s the difference between overnight care and twilight care?

  • Overnight care allows parents to get a full night of rest while I care for your baby, handle nighttime feeds or bottle prep, and assist with light household tasks.

  • Twilight care (8:30 PM – Midnight) is a shorter option that gives you time to rest, shower, or relax without committing to a full overnight shift.

How does your support help with sleep deprivation?

Newborns have irregular sleep cycles, and it’s easy for parents to feel exhausted. I help by caring for your baby while you rest, supporting nighttime feeding, and ensuring you have healthy meals, clean bottles, and a calmer home environment so you can focus on recovery.

Do you offer meal prep for new parents?

Yes! Nutritious meals and snacks are essential for postpartum recovery, but finding the time to prepare them can be tough. I include light meal prep and snack preparation in my services, so you always have something nourishing ready to grab and eat.

What areas do you serve for in-home postpartum doula care?

I currently provide in-home postpartum doula services in the Hampton Roads, VA are. If you're unsure whether I serve your location, reach out, and I'll be happy to discuss availability.

How do I book a postpartum doula or lactation counseling session?

Booking is simple! You can schedule a session by clicking HERE or contact me directly to discuss your needs and available packages. I’m happy to answer any questions and help you find the best option for your family.

When should I book postpartum doula services?

I recommend booking before your baby arrives, especially if you’re expecting in 2025, since spots can fill quickly. However, I do my best to accommodate last-minute requests whenever possible.

What if I’m not sure which package is right for me?

I offer a free consultation to discuss your needs and help you choose the best postpartum support package for your family.

What is a babywearing consultation, and how does it work?

A babywearing consultation is a one-on-one session where I help parents learn how to safely and comfortably use different baby carriers. You can bring your own carrier or try options from our Babywearing Closet.

Can I gift postpartum support to a friend or family member?

Yes! Postpartum support makes a wonderful and meaningful gift for new parents. Contact me to set up a gift package.

What is the different between an IBCLC and a CLC?

A Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) completes 95 hours of lactation education, while an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) undergoes the same training plus college-level coursework and a minimum of 500 supervised clinical hours.

As part of my training, I have completed 75+ mentored clinical hours and college-level coursework in addition to my 95 hours of lactation education, ensuring I can provide knowledgeable and compassionate support to the families I serve.

Do you accept insurance?

Not at this time.  Lactation care will be covered under tricare in late 2025

Is it okay to attend Weigh & Play/other groups if my baby doesn’t interact with others yet?

Yes! Playgroups are for parents just as much as they are for babies!

Village Postpartum Support

Finding My True Calling

My journey into postpartum care wasn’t something I planned—it found me. With a background in engineering and nonprofit work, I was always drawn to problem-solving and connection. But it wasn’t until I became a mother that I truly understood the power of support during those early days.

I was fortunate to have a strong village around me—friends, family, and my husband, Tyler—who made the transition into parenthood feel less overwhelming. Their care, encouragement, and presence meant everything. As I supported friends on their own parenting journeys, I realized that this was my true calling.

Now, as a DONA-trained postpartum doula and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), I’m here to offer that same support to you. Whether it’s answering late-night questions, providing lactation guidance, or simply reminding you that you’re doing an amazing job—I want you to feel confident and cared for.

You are not alone in this journey, and I would be honored to be part of your village.

I’m so glad you’re here!

Parenthood is one of life’s biggest transitions—beautiful, challenging, and full of unknowns. I know firsthand how overwhelming those early days can feel, but I also know the incredible difference a strong support system can make. Having people who uplifted me, reassured me, and simply showed up made all the difference in my journey as a new mom.

That experience shaped my passion for postpartum care. Now, as a postpartum doula and lactation counselor, I’m here to offer that same support to you.
